Czech Virtuosi Orchestra
“The Czech Virtuosi Orchestra began its concert life twenty-five years ago. Since then it has given more than 800 performances featuring works by the great masters of symphonic, sacred, and operatic music, from the Baroque to the present day. The ensemble’s core repertoire, however, remains the music of W. A. Mozart. In addition to numerous appearances in Vienna –at the famed Konzerthaus and at Schönbrunn – Czech Virtuosi also performs further afield. The orchestra has toured Japan three times and is invited annually to music festivals in countries such as the Netherlands, Italy, and Spain. Highlights include its appearance at the Festival of Czech Music in Dijon, France, in 2015 and the subsequent staging of operas by Leoš Janáček.
The Czech Virtuosi Orchestra also cherishes its audiences at home. It appears at Czech festivals such as Smetana’s Litomyšl and the St. Wenceslas Music Festival, performs at Prague’s Rudolfinum, and presents its own concert series in Brno. Epiphany concerts and programmes for Easter and Christmas have become a local tradition, and concerts with Jiří Pavlica and Hradišťan in the Cathedral of Sts Peter and Paul are especially popular. Beyond its live performances, Czech Virtuosi can also be heard on a number of CD recordings.
The ensemble, artistically led by Miloslav Vávra, is made up of concertmasters and soloists from the Janáček Opera and the Brno Philharmonic. Guest appearances feature leading Czech and international instrumentalists, singers, and choirs. For example, the violinists Josef Špaček, Ivan Ženatý, Pavel Šporcl, Jiří Pospíchal, and Esther Yoo. Among the many distinguished artists who have taken to the podium are Petr Altrichter, Ondřej Lenárd, Sébastien Rouland, Heinz Prammer, Jakub Klecker, Robert Kružík, Štefan Veselka, and Éric Lederhandler.”
